The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit lies within a unique
Sierra Nevada geologic basin, along the border of California
and Nevada. It encompasses over 150,000 acres of National
Forest lands, and ranges in altitude above sea level from
6,225 feet at lake level to 10,881 feet at Freel Peak, overlooking
the City of South Lake Tahoe. From sparkling lakeside beaches,
to high country alpine meadows and trails, the LTBMU provides
some of the finest outdoor recreation in the nation, combined
with breathtaking scenery. Whether you prefer the solitude
of nature, camping, hiking, mountain biking, or water-sports,
the LTBMU and its many basin partners provide some of the
most diverse opportunities in all seasons of the year.
